Escape the Heat—and Reality—at Countdown2Escape

One of our favorite things to do as a couple are escape rooms! Okay… MY favorite thing to do as a couple are escape rooms, and my hubby happily indulges me. Escape rooms are a fun challenge if you love solving puzzles and putting your brain to the test to think outside the box and your daily life routine. I also love the one-on-one, distraction-free time they provide to us on date nights. But recently, we did something new… We tried an escape room WITH THE KIDS! Read on for our experience and review of escaping from Countdown2Escape in Downtown Frisco as a family.

Kids’ Experience

For reference, our kids are 10 and 7 years old. I knew our older daughter would be down with the escape room premise and try her hardest to help us with the clues. But I wasn’t sure how our 7-year-old son and youngest child (if you know you know…) would like it and react. I’ll go ahead and spoil it for you: They both loved it! But for different reasons.

Our older daughter was totally into following the clues, being helpful, and winning (escaping) at all costs. Our younger son was totally into the dinosaur theme (thanks, C2E!), providing comic relief, and helping where he could. At the end of our experience, they both felt like they accomplished something really cool and challenging, and have both since asked to do another escape room at Countdown2Escape.

Why Countdown2Escape?

These days, there are a lot of escape room experiences to choose from. But the one we consistently love and go back to is Countdown2Escape in the Frisco Rail District. Not only are the escape experiences fun, challenging, well executed, and updated often, we love the people and atmosphere at C2E. From the owners to the young adults guiding you through the experiences, everyone is consistently friendly and fun. The atmosphere of the lobby/waiting area is very comfortable and homey, like being in your own living room, and just super cute.

Overall Experience

Do I recommend Countdown2Escape as a family experience? Yes!! But with a couple of caveats. I think the sweet spot might be around our daughter’s age, so 9-10 years old. She was able to read the clues, reason with the adults, and act upon our ideas and hunches. Our 7-year-old son loved it as well! He was more than happy to follow any instructions or directions we suggested. But I think he may feel more involved and useful in a couple years when his reading and reasoning skills are a little more advanced. There are different levels of rooms at C2E, ranging from beginner to difficult. Obviously I recommend a beginner room for the kiddos. But you know your kids best, so take their individual personalities into account as you make family plans.

We totally enjoyed our time as a family at Countdown2Escape and will be back often! It was such a unique and fun outing for us, and you know this mama enjoyed having everyone disconnected from screens at the same time in pursuit of a common goal.
