Relaxing Family Getaway: Margaritaville Lake Resort

Margaritaville Lake Resort is a beautiful, newly-renovated luxury resort nestled on the shores of Lake Conroe in quaint Montgomery, Texas. The completely renovated and expanded resort opened to acclaim in June and has been a top destination for families seeking fun, relaxation, and unique experiences since then. An easy 3.5 hour drive southeast from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Margaritaville is the perfect waterfront resort for a relaxing family getaway.

The Margaritaville Hotels and Resorts family includes prime properties around the world, with 23 locations in 20 cities across 6 countries. The resorts take pride in their Jimmy Buffett-inspired roots, with a multitude of hat tips to the music legend throughout their properties, from the music playing on speakers, to very unique and intentional decor choices. We loved the feel of the Lake Conroe resort- it was just campy and elegant enough to be fun and uplifting without being tacky and obtrusive. We loved identifying all the Jimmy Buffett and island lifestyle details, like a treasure hunt!

ACCOMODATIONS

The Margaritaville building and grounds on Lake Conroe have gone through several changes over the years. Most recently, Margaritaville acquired the property and worked tirelessly over the course of a year to completely renovate and expand the existing hotel, officially opening their doors in June 2020. As a result, the resort looks and feels brand new, light, and fresh.

The resort features 303 luxury suites and 32 of the cutest on-site cottages you ever did see. All rooms in the hotel are luxury suites, each featuring 600 square feet of space with separate living and sleeping areas, while each cottage features private accommodations on the water with easy access to all resort amenities.

We loved our balcony suite! It was very comfortable, well decorated, and welcoming, with plenty of room for our family of four. We also got to tour the Jimmy Buffett Suite and it knocked our socks off. It’s beautifully decorated in the same aesthetic as the rest of the hotel and would be the perfect place to host a small, family gathering.

AMENITIES

Jolly Mon Water Park

As a family with young kids, our favorite place on property was the Jolly Mon Water Park. We arrived just in time to experience the water park before the weather turned too cold. While the large slides were already closed for the season, the kids loved floating the lazy river and roaring through the splash structure. Across the way, the kids and adults alike enjoyed the heated pool and multiple hot tubs that are open year-round.

St. Somewhere Spa

This momma was overjoyed to experience a relaxing massage at the St. Somewhere Spa during our stay! The spa is located in its own building on the grounds and is an absolute oasis. From the relaxing sitting rooms and sauna to the calming treatment rooms and fully-equipped locker room, the St. Somewhere Spa should not be missed during your stay. All of the providers at St. Somewhere have at least 10 years of experience, and it shows. I received a CBD massage and back scrub from Connie that left me woozy (in a good way!) and totally relaxed.

Surf & Boat Rentals

Another highlight of our stay was a morning spent out on Lake Conroe in our private pontoon boat rental, fishing with provided equipment and exploring! I actually grew up around Lake Conroe so am familiar with the lake and was happy to experience some boating fun with my family. Einstein’s Surf & Boat Shop offers on-site water rentals of all kinds to Margaritaville guests: ski and pontoon boats, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and even electric paddleboats, which are top on our list for our next visit.

FOOD AND DINING

On-Property Options

Margaritaville is home to several on-site restaurants that we enjoyed during our stay- we loved never having to leave the resort grounds to find a good meal! We enjoyed a sunset, lake-side dinner on the patio at LandShark Bar & Grill on our first evening, soaking in the laid-back vibe of the restaurant as well as the live music. After dinner, the kids got to play on the sandy beach at LandShark! We equally enjoyed meals, snacks, and drinks from the other on-site restaurants and cafés, including the License to Chill Café & Bar and Joe Merchant’s Coffee & Provisions

Sunset Dinner Cruise

During our stay, we were lucky enough to experience a Lake Conroe dinner cruise aboard The Little Palm Yacht. The cruise departed Margaritaville right at sunset and while aboard we were treated to passed hors d’oeuvres, a catered dinner (plated and served by masked and gloved caterers), and passed desserts on the open-air top deck of the yacht. It was a treat to experience the lake at night and was a fun and unique experience that we’ll always remember!

UPCOMING HOLIDAY EVENTS

Margaritaville Lake Resort has several upcoming holiday events that would be perfect for a holiday family getaway! These events include a Thanksgiving Jazz Brunch Buffet on November 26 and Breakfast with Santa on December 12. Santa arrives at the resort on a boat, y’all! And stays for brunch and pictures.

We truly loved our time a Margaritaville. During our stay, we received a detailed itinerary of family-friendly resort activities each day. These events included photo sessions with real parrots, family karaoke, digital scavenger hunts, family bingo, and so much more! If you’re a golfing family, the resort also features a par-71 USGA-certified course for you to spend a day on the links. Or if mini golf and pickleball are more your speed, you can play both of those on the property as well. Margaritaville truly is a family-friendly luxury resort where kids are welcome and even catered to, and the whole family can relax and enjoy time together.
